Zukerman & Associates is a full-service Certified Public Accounting firm founded in 1983 by Herbert J. Zukerman, CPA. All our CPA's hold valid VA State CPA Certificates. In the last 30 years, we have grown rapidly as our reputation for quality services has spread. We currently have three shareholders, a staff of 29 professionals and paraprofessionals, and an administrative and support staff of four. The principals of the firm are as follows:

Meet Our Staff:

Herbert J. Zukerman, CPA

Founder, Shareholder

Herb, the founder and President of the firm, received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Master in Business Administration from Cornell University. He has been practicing accounting for over 40 years, and has a broad range of experience in taxes and business consulting. Herb specializes in assisting clients in structuring complex transactions in order to attempt to maximize their financial reward while minimizing their tax consequences. He structures estate plans, business continuation and works with family business issues. He has also served as an expert witness in numerous business and divorce related litigation matters.



Stephen J. Robinson, CPA

Shareholder

Steve graduated from Old Dominion University in 1980 and has more than 38 years of public accounting experience. In this time, Steve has provided tax services to a wide variety of corporate, partnership and individual tax clients. This experience has given him an in-depth understanding of the tax code and its complexities, enabling him to resolve our clients' most difficult tax issues.


Theodore Colna, CPA

Shareholder

Ted is a 1982 graduate of James Madison University and received a Master of Science in Taxation from the College of William and Mary in 1993. He has more than 37 years experience in taxation, the first four of which were with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company in Norfolk. Ted specializes in retirement and estate planning, as well as other aspects of individual and corporate taxation.



Gary J. Rothman, CPA

Associate

Gary graduated from Virginia Tech in 1981 and has more than 38 years of experience in public accounting. During this time, Gary has provided business consulting services as well as tax services to a broad range of corporate, partnership, limited liability and individual clients. Gary has vast experience in accounting software implementation and the startup of new businesses.


Peter F. Bariteau, CPA

Audit Manager

Pete leads our accounting and auditing practice. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting. Pete has more than 38 years of experience serving a wide range of publicly and privately held organizations across a broad range of industries including construction, manufacturing, real estate (including HUD and VHDA), retail, wholesale, retirement plans, homeowner associates and not-for-profit organizations. He brings to our clients a unique blend of expertise gained from his experience with clients of all sizes, from small start-up operations to large multinational corporation. 



Heather Fineberg, EA

1040 Department Manager

Heather graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting in 2001. She has been with Zukerman & Associates, Ltd. since January 2002 and is the head of our 1040 Tax Department. She has extensive experience in individual income tax, payroll, cafeteria plan document preparation and in dealing with the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of taxpayers.
